Horana Police Headquarters report that the residence of Specialist Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe, General Secretary of the National People’s Congress Party and Kalutara District Parliamentarian, located in the Horana Handicraft Housing Complex, was targeted by burglars during the night.

According to police, the intruders stole Rs. 25,000 from the premises. Dr. Abeysinghe and his family had been away from the house since 2 p.m., and upon returning around 3 a.m., they discovered the burglary. Clothes in the room had been scattered, and the cupboard was left open. Further inspection revealed that the kitchen door and window had been tampered with.

Initial investigations suggest the burglars gained entry through the kitchen window and exited through the door after committing the theft.

The investigation is being led by Chief Inspector Lakshmanda Silva of the Criminal Investigation Division, under the supervision of Horana Police Headquarters Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Chief Inspector P. S. Panawala. The probe is being conducted on the directives of Panadura Divisional Senior Superintendent of Police Chamil Ratnayake and Assistant Superintendent of Police Udaya Kumara.
