In today’s complex social and economic climate, society is well aware of who speaks the truth and who does not. As university professors, it is our responsibility to advocate for honesty and transparency, especially when addressing the pressing issues facing our nation. The claim that money can miraculously be sourced from Uganda is one such myth that needs debunking. We must confront misleading narratives and focus on real solutions, particularly when nearly 25% of our population lives below the poverty line.
As members of Sri Jayewardenepura University and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) supporters, we are dedicated to promoting truth and raising awareness about the actual challenges people face. Our role as educators obliges us to empower citizens with accurate information, encouraging them to engage critically with societal issues.
Despite the accusations and unfounded criticisms that often come our way, we remain steadfast. Our commitment to educating the masses and driving social awareness remains unshaken. We see ourselves as a team capable of guiding the nation out of poverty by fostering informed decision-making and self-sufficiency among the people.
As Senior Professor Kennedy Gunawardena from Sri Jayewardenepura University stated, “Our purpose is to educate, inform, and uplift society.” This commitment to truth and education strengthens our resolve to build a future where knowledge, integrity, and resilience lay the foundation for a better Sri Lanka.
