Lay people including the Maha Sangharatna were present demanding permission to carry out the prohibited development activities of Nilaveli Boralu Kanda Raja Maha Vihara.
The protesting Maha Sangharatna and other people protested to block the main entrance and the main road in front of the district office.
The meeting of the District Coordination Committee which was to be held at the District Governor’s office was also held amid these disturbances and the co-chairman of that committee, Member of Parliament Mr. Kapila Nuwan Athukorala, turned back and went another way because he could not go to the District Governor’s office, and the other co-chairman of the said committee, Governor Sendil Thondaman, was present at the meeting.
