The police fired water and tear gas to disperse the protest organized by the inter-university monk council of the Homagama Buddhist and Pali University.
The protest and Satyagraha had been organized by the Inter-University Bhikshu Balamandalaya demanding that the Homagama Buddhist and Pali University be opened to all students.
There was a heated situation with the police this afternoon while preparing to build a temporary attic for Satyagraha at Homagama Pitipana intersection.
Later, the protesting student monks engaged in satyagraha at that place.
The police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd.
