Bribery Commission Launches Probe Into MP Sritharan Over Alleged Illegal Assets and Liquor Licenses

Investigations have been launched by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption regarding complaints made against Jaffna District Member of Parliament S. Sritharan over alleged unlawful acquisition of assets and the obtaining of liquor licenses. Sri Lanka Latest News

A civil society activist, Sanjaya Mahawatta, had recently lodged a complaint with the Bribery Commission alleging that the MP obtained liquor licenses through the previous government and started a luxury shopping complex.

In relation to this complaint, he was questioned today by the Commission for nearly seven hours. During the inquiry, he had provided the Commission with information regarding the alleged unlawful assets owned by MP Sritharan.

It is alleged that the liquor license had been obtained for this bar by making payments to the Kandawalai Divisional Secretariat (DS) office through his son, Sarangan.

It has also been revealed that he owns two luxury supermarkets — one located in Kankasanthurai, Jaffna, and the other situated in front of the Kilinochchi Pradeshiya Sabha.

However, allegations claim that these supermarkets are operated through his niece (sister’s daughter) and his brother.

MP Sritharan and his relatives are expected to be questioned further regarding these revelations.
