Bribery Commission Files Three Corruption Cases Against Former Minister Piyankara Jayaratne

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has filed three separate cases against former Civil Aviation Minister Piyankara Jayaratne.

In a statement issued by the Commission, it was confirmed that the cases were filed at the Colombo High Court on January 8, 2025.

The charges pertain to alleged acts of corruption linked to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Under Case No. HCB/353/2025, the CAA is accused of causing a loss of Rs. 128,520 by printing 3,000 Vesak greeting cards using its resources. In Case No. HCB/354/2025, the CAA allegedly caused a financial loss of Rs. 360,000 to Mahawewa Vee Hena Farm Private Limited. Finally, in Case No. HCB/355/2025, the CAA is accused of committing corruption by facilitating a loss to the government through the transfer of Rs. 494,000 to an account at the National Savings Bank in Chilaw.

The Commission has also initiated legal proceedings against officials of the Civil Aviation Authority implicated in these cases, citing their involvement in these alleged corrupt activities.
