Sri Lanka’s North is set to experience an enhancement in connectivity as efforts to upgrade Jaffna International Airport (JIA) have commenced. The Airport & Aviation Services initiated the process on Monday by inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) aimed at improving JIA’s facilities, infrastructure, and capabilities. The Cabinet-Appointed Negotiation Committee facilitated the call for EOIs on behalf of the Airport & Aviation Services.
The primary goal of the upgrade initiative is to facilitate the operation of wide-bodied aircraft, particularly those designed for A330, through a comprehensive approach involving design, construction, financing, operation, and transfer.
Interested parties must meet specific eligibility criteria, including demonstrating an average annual turnover of at least US$ 50 million or equivalent over the past five years, as well as possessing sufficient bank credit line facilities equivalent to the project cost. Additionally, applicants must provide an audited balance sheet reflecting a minimum of US$ 20 million in net assets for the last financial year.
The deadline for proposal submissions is April 3, 2024.
Last October, Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva announced a Rs.200 million upgrade for JIA to bolster its capacity for increased flight operations to India.
