A journalist of a leading Tamil publication in the North being detained and questioned for over 4 hours by Police anti-terrorism investigation Division for publishing a story about the LTTE leader’s birthday and his photo three years ago.
The Anti-Terrorism and Investigation Division has questioned an award-winning journalist for more than four hours.
Journalist K. Dilip Amudan the news editor of the newspaper ‘Udayan’, a daily newspaper published in the north, was summoned to the head office of the Counter-Terrorism and Investigation Division (CTID) in Colombo on November 1.
‘CTID has questioned the journalist regarding the news published on November 26, 2020 with a photograph regarding the birthday of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran on November 26, as well as regarding a letter published inviting Tamil Heroes Day on November 27.’
Reporters in the North say that the Anti-Terrorism and Investigation Division in Colombo questioned the journalist for four and a half hours on November 1st from 9 am to 1.30 pm.
Provincial reporters further mention that the Jaffna Police had also filed a case in court at the same time regarding the article published by ‘Udayan’ newspaper on November 26, 2020.
Journalist Dilip Amuthan was awarded for exposing military business affairs in the North under the Freedom of Information Act.
They further said that for the celebration of Tamil Heroes’ Day on November 27, the work of sanctifying the burial grounds in many places in the north has already started.
