Australian National’s Death in Kollupitiya: Family Alleges Murder, Seeks Justice
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The death of a 51-year-old Australian national, who fell from the seventh floor of a hotel in Kollupitiya, has sparked controversy, with the victim’s family claiming it was not a suicide.

During a press conference held in Colombo, the deceased’s relatives urged the Sri Lankan government to ensure justice is served and conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Initial reports received on the 6th of this month indicated that the foreigner had died by suicide after jumping from the hotel’s seventh floor. Despite police efforts to prevent the tragedy, they were unable to stop him. Law enforcement authorities later disclosed that the deceased had been suffering from mental health issues.

However, the victim’s family, who recently arrived in Sri Lanka to conduct their own inquiries, strongly disputed the suicide narrative. Speaking to the media, they alleged that the incident was, in fact, a murder.

The victim’s sister and two brothers emphasized during the press conference that their loved one had no reason to end his life, casting doubt on the official account of the incident.

The family has called on Sri Lankan authorities to carry out a fair and transparent investigation to uncover the truth behind the Australian national’s untimely death.
