The Meteorology Department issued an amber colour alert (Be prepared) for heavy deluges for 12 districts today.
According to the Department, the atmospheric conditions are favourable for increased afternoon thundershowers over most of the island today.
As a result, heavy rains exceeding 100mm are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and North-Western Provinces, as well as Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya Districts.
As a result, the 12 districts of Puttalam, Kurunegala, Kandy, Gampaha, Kegalla, Nuwara Eliya, Colombo, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle, Matara, and Hambantota have been issued weather warnings.
Furthermore, the department asks the public to be on the lookout for Meteorology Department advisories and to contact local disaster management authorities for emergency assistance.
