Aruna Darshana qualifies for the 400m Olympic semi-finals; and becomes the first Sri Lankan 400m runner to qualify for Olympic Semis.

Aruna Darshana turned a new page in the history of athletics in Sri Lanka and qualified for the semi-finals in the 400-meter event of the Olympic Games. Sri Lanka Latest News.

Aruna Darshana has made history by becoming the first Sri Lankan 400m runner to qualify for the Olympics.

In the 400-meter preliminary round held yesterday (04), he finished third at 44.99 seconds.

Also, Aruna recorded this performance, becoming the second player to record a performance under 45 seconds in the event.

That is after former racing champion Sugath Thilakaratne.

Also, Aruna Darshan is the first player to qualify for the semi-finals of the Olympic Games in this event.

Aruna Darshana was born in Serunuwara Dehiwatta village in Trincomalee and later studied at Akurambada Weera Kappatipola National School in Matale.

This is the emotional moment when his coach Asanka Rajakaruna shared his happiness with Aruna after the victory.

Aruna Darshana is scheduled to participate in the semi-final of this event on the sixth at 11.05 pm.
