Former Minister Arjuna Ranatunga and former Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), Dhammika Ranatunga, were indicted by the Colombo High Court today on corruption charges.
The court ordered both defendants to be released on two surety bonds of Rs. 5 million each. A pre-trial conference for the case has been scheduled for May 15.
The defendants are accused of causing a loss of nearly Rs. 800 million to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation by cancelling three long-term fuel tenders originally planned for a six-month period in 2017–2018. Instead, it is alleged that they arranged for 27 spot tenders at higher prices, thereby aiding and abetting the loss.
