Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa emphasized that the Sakwala program aims to enhance education and foster an informed society. By promoting education, the program encourages decisions based on scientific facts and evidence, moving away from ignorance and uninformed governance. He highlighted that today’s decision reflects this vision.
Premadasa made these remarks during a donation event where Rs. 1,177,000 worth of classroom equipment and dictionaries were provided to Panadura Jeelan Central High School as part of the 383rd phase of the Sakwala program. An additional Rs. 100,000 was donated to the school’s development fund.
He acknowledged the recent apology from the rulers for past mistakes affecting a nation and religion but stressed that this apology does not suffice for those who suffered due to such misguided decisions. Premadasa vowed that under a future SJB government, compensation will be provided to the affected community by the end of the year, and legal action will be taken against those responsible for the harmful policies.
Premadasa also expressed his clear stance on the Palestinian issue, advocating for peace and harmony between Israel and Palestine.
Under the Samagi Jana Balavegaya’s Sakwala program, Rs. 19.06 million worth of medicines and hospital equipment have been distributed to 63 hospitals. Additionally, 89 buses valued at Rs. 5 million have been provided to schools, and Rs. 43.42 million has been spent on 383 schools to supply them with comfortable classroom equipment.
