The Payagala police say that the vice-captain of the cricket team of Kalutara Tissa College, who was attacked with cricket bats in the end of the cricket match between Kalutara Tissa National School and Kalutara Maha Vidyalaya, has been seriously injured and taken to hospital.
At the end of the one-day match between the two schools for the 13th time at the Maggona Surrey sports grounds, after the victory of Kalutara school in the last over, the students of the defeated Kalutara Tissa National School, who were watching the match had removed four wickets installed in the middle of the field, according to police investigations.
Investigations have further revealed that around 4000 spectators supporting both teams were at the stadium to watch the match at that time.
A spokesperson from the hospital said that the vice-principal of Tissa National School, Kalutara, who was seriously injured due to a blow to the head, is currently being treated in the intensive care unit of the Nagoda general hospital , Kalutara, and will be transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for a special head surgery.
