The Department of Probation and Child Protection has managed to uncover a racket of selling small children for money, allegedly carried on by a minor employee of the Kandy National Hospital.
The Probation and Child Protection Department together with the Naula Police found a two-month-old baby and a two-month-old baby hidden in the house of this hospital worker in Naula during a raid yesterday, the probation officers said.
They said that they have received information that the two babies have been hidden for sale to two families residing in Galle and Australia.
They said that the Kandy Probation and Child Protection Department obtained court orders and handed over the two babies to an orphanage.
The officials also said that information was revealed that one mother of these children resides in Theldeniya and the other in Nikaverati.
