Amnesty International Accuses Israel of Genocide in Gaza

“My body survived but my spirit died with my children,
it was crushed under the rubble with them.”
Ahmad Nasman, whose parents, sister, wife and three
children were killed in an Israeli air strike on 14 December 2023.

For over a year the world has watched in horror as Israel has waged a brutal onslaught against Palestinians in Gaza killing more than 43,000 people, wiping out entire families, decimating residential neighbourhoods and destroying critical infrastructure.

Amnesty carried out in-depth research into Israel’s conduct in Gaza following 7 October 2023. We documented how Israel has carried out three out of five acts prohibited under the Genocide Convention: killing Palestinians, inflicting serious physical or mental harm on them and deliberately creating conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction.

Israel has carried out these acts shamelessly, continuously and with the specific intent to destroy Palestinians in Gaza.

Time and again Israel has treated Palestinians as subhuman and unworthy of human rights and dignity.

“Here in Deir al-Balah, it’s like an apocalypse…
You feel like you are subhuman here.”
Mohammed, a 42-year-old father of three, speaking in June 2024
about his experience of displacement from Rafah to Deir al-Balah governorate.

To gather evidence of Israel’s genocidal intent we examined racist and dehumanizing statements by senior Israeli military and government officials, analysed the overall pattern of Israel’s conduct in Gaza and looked at Israel’s actions in the context of apartheid and occupation.

Based on the evidence we found only one reasonable conclusion: Israel has committed and is committing genocide in Gaza.

Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza must end!
Join us in our call to #EndGazaGenocide. Act now and write an appeal.

In solidarity,
Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Amnesty International
