All surgeries at Colombo Eye Hospital have been halted indefinitely!

All surgeries at the National Eye Hospital have been suspended indefinitely since yesterday (19). The director of the hospital, Dr. A.R.M. Tawfiq said.

The director mentioned that steps have been taken to quickly eliminate the spread of the germs in the operating room and to restore it to normal condition and it is not possible to announce a specific date for that.

However, in this regard, the Association of Health Professionals states that a formal investigation should be conducted by the Ministry of Health as to how a germ entered the operating room.

“Germs don’t just enter a surgery. A large number of people are employed to control them. Therefore, the Ministry of Health should formally investigate how these things happened. It is the responsibility of the Deputy Director General who has been appointed to that section of the Ministry of Health to provide an alternative method instead of turning away patients from the operating theatre.

It is the responsibility of the health minister and the government to assign him that job. Why is there a Ministry of Health to say, ” operating theatre is infected with a germ, there is nothing we can do, come back on a day this is fixed”?  By stopping these medical activities the life of a patient can finally be affected. Who is responsible for it? Where are the people who shed crocodile tears for the sick when they went on strike? Those who don’t seem to have seen these, we directly question this is a part of planned effort to send the free health service to private hands”
