With the government’s decision to revise the VAT, the telephone companies say that the taxes for telecommunication services will increase from the first of January. Sri Lanka Latest News
The government took steps to increase the VAT from 15 per cent to 18 per cent and due to this, the tax for telecommunication services will also increase by 3 per cent.
Accordingly, the telephone companies have announced that the charges for all services such as call charges, internet service charges, pay TV service charges etc. will be increased.
The charges for some prepaid cards have not been increased and steps have been taken to reduce the data quota provided.
Meanwhile, in a press conference held today, Mr Indrajith Perera, Chairman of the All Ceylon Communication Owners’ Association, stated that due to VAT, the running of his business has been seriously threatened.
