In the year 2017, Alkaduwa Plantation Company filed a case against a field officer and a watchman of the estate for stealing 02 kilos of pepper from the Ratwatte estate under case number 39/32/2017 in the Matale court.
Alkaduwa Plantation Company had lost in this case and therefore the company had to pay compensation of Rs.5,34000 to one employee and Rs.8.58000 to the other employee. It was also revealed in the General Business Committee meeting that an amount of 1,350,000 rupees has been paid as their legal fees.
It was revealed in this committee that after 6 years of proceedings assigned for 02 kilos of stolen pepper worth 400 rupees, Alkaduwa Plantation Company will have spent 274 lakh rupees.
In addition to this, the members of the COPE Committee pointed out that a person who worked as the general manager of Alkaduwa Company had been accused of many things and he was found guilty even in disciplinary investigations.
The Chairman of the Cope Committee recommended that a report be given in this regard within two weeks.
In the meantime, it has been learned that many MPs are ready to reveal many more frauds and corruption in the Alkadu estate in the future.
