Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Sabri has stated that if anyone wants to remove Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe from the position of Central Bank Governor, he is ready to resign for him.
Today in Parliament, he said that the people will benefit from the decisions taken by Nandalal Weerasinghe.
He also mentioned that people who take such bold decisions should be kept.
Expressing his opinion on the allegations against Mr. Nandalal Weerasinghe in Parliament yesterday, he said:
He said that he declared that he could not pay the debt on the approval of himself as the then finance minister, the former president as well as a large number of other people.
“No money to pay, 203 million dollars . There were thirty-seven thousand US dollars in the treasury. Then pay them or pay off the loan? I can’t imagine! I accepted that responsibility. I discussed that decision with those who needed it. The Governor of the Central Bank gave me the necessary instructions to make that decision. But if someone wants to get rid of him, I will step aside and keep him. The people are benefiting from his decisions today. Don’t follow false people. We need to keep people who make bold decisions like this. “
