Ali Sabri Rahim was fined and released.

Mr. Ali Sabri Rahim, Member of Parliament of Puttalam District, who was taken into the custody of Customs along with illegally brought gold and smart phones, has been fined 7.5 million rupees and has been released.

Puttalam District Member of Parliament Ali Sabri Rahim, who was arrested yesterday (23) along with a stock of gold at the Katunayake Airport, has been confirmed by its customs department to be worth more than 740,000,000.

It is also stated that there were 91 smartphones in the stock of mobile phones seized there and its market value is 71 million rupees.

Yesterday morning (23rd), the member of parliament who arrived in Sri Lanka from Dubai, United Arab Emirates on a Fly Dubai flight, was arrested on suspicion by the officials of the Revenue Monitoring Division of Sri Lanka Customs when he came to leave the airport through the gate reserved for special persons. Later, during the search of his luggage, a stock of gold biscuits and jewelery and a stock of mobile phones were found in it.
