The relatives of the late Minister MHM Ashroff have withdrawn from President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s proposal to build a memorial museum in Kalmunai at an estimated cost of 25 million rupees to honour their relative. I Sri Lanka Latest News

Aman Ashroff, the son of the late Minister Ashroff, posted on his Twitter account and said that neither he nor his mother, former minister Ferial Ashroff, is involved in this project.

Commenting on the government’s proposal, Aman has stated that if his father was alive, instead of such projects, he would have preferred to raise education standards, solve problems in the agriculture and fisheries sector, provide access to expertise and create job opportunities in new markets for the youth of Digamadulla.

Hence, Aman Ashroff termed this plan as a ‘joke’.

It was reported last Wednesday that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has given instructions to build the ‘Ashroff Memorial Museum’ as per the request of the community led by Digamadulla District Member of Parliament HMM Harris.

It was also stated that President Wickremesinghe has allocated 25 million rupees for the project and has instructed the officials to start the construction without delay.
