Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe has appointed a committee, headed by Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, to provide guidance on investigations into sensitive and serious criminal cases.
The committee was formed following a request by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya. Other members include Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Priyantha Bandara, Senior State Counsel Jayanthi Wegodapola, and State Counsel Shakthi Jagodaarachchi.
The committee’s mandate is to ensure that no legal lapses occur in the filing of serious criminal cases currently under investigation.
Sources from the Attorney General’s Department stated that the committee will offer urgent legal advice whenever required to address issues that may arise during investigations.
