Mattala Airport lost 22214 million rupees last year. According to the audit report, the main reason for this is foreign exchange loss.

The audit revealed that Mattala Airport has lost 42,818 million rupees in the last six years (2017 to 2022).

Although the expected annual passenger capacity of this airport is about one million, the audit says that the total number of flights that have passed through Mattala Airport in the last 06 years is 103,324. The total number of flights made for all 06 years is 2,612.

It is stated in the audit report that an expenditure of 36,564 million rupees was incurred for the construction of the airport, and that amount was not used effectively.

The airport and airline company had paid an annual loan installment of 1,842 million rupees for the loan of 190 million dollars taken for the construction of the airport.

This information is mentioned in the audit report included in the 2022 Annual Report of Airports and Air Services Private Company.
