A very corrupt deal! The minister was initially willing to tender and then objected! Even though they say they did 37 projects in 6 continents in 20 countries, there is no proof! The government has planned to build a solar power plant near Punakari Lake in Kilinochchi, which includes a 700 MW solar power plant, 100% battery power system and cable lines, but the government has decided to enter into an agreement with an Australian company for that project outside of proper procurement procedures. Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said in a special statement today (15) that it is the beginning of another highly corrupt transaction. Sri Lanka Latest News

The leader of the opposition said that when the Sri Lanka Electricity Amendment Bill was discussed in the Parliament on June 9, 2022, the opposition proposed to implement the procurement tender system for renewable electricity projects of more than 10 MW, but the minister in charge initially liked the proposal and later opposed it. .

The opposition leader said that the renewable energy program is an asset to the country, but due to the removal of competition in the renewable energy sector, a mafia is currently operating and there is a racket of reselling these permits by giving these permits to people friendly to them and unqualified institutions.

The opposition leader said that this project which is taking place near the Punakari lake is extremely corrupt and it is being implemented by a party that is friendly to him outside of the competitive system and it is harming the country and in this regard all the officials involved in this led by the cabinet secretary should be accountable and responsible to the country.

No study or research has been done on whether this company chosen by the government is capable of carrying out this project and according to the website of this company called United Solar Energy Sri Lanka Private Limited, they cannot confirm the information related to any of the projects they have carried out in 20 countries. The opposition leader disclosed here that it is said that 37 projects of 6 have been carried out, but no physical evidence has been found.

The opposition leader emphasized that this is a robbery of national property and doubts arise whether the current government is changing the competitive system and implementing such projects with the aim of earning money through such illegal transactions because they will be defeated in the 2024 elections.

Also, the opposition leader said that since the Australian government has named United Solar Investment as a fraudulent company from March 15, 2023 and has told not to do business with that company, investigative journalists are requested to reveal the truth to the country.
