According to the information revealed in the reports of the three-member committee appointed by the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA), stocks of 91 types of essential medicines are said to have run out.

At present, it is said that the Central Drug Store (CMS) does not have any quantity of these drugs. GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge says that the committee’s report has confirmed that the information that has been revealed to the country so far is the most serious reality on the ground. He says that there is a very serious situation regarding maintaining the necessary optimal stocks.

They state that the responsible authorities and officials did not take any concrete steps until the number of essential drugs such as some drugs used for anesthesia, anti-cancer drugs, drugs taken for respiratory and respiratory diseases, and drugs given for common heart diseases was reduced to zero.

According to reports, Dr. Haritha Aluthge says that the painkillers have completely run out. Apart from these scarce medicines, the remaining stocks of medicines are currently available, but it is said that it is not enough. Due to this reason, the doctors have not been able to provide the medicines to the patients for a month. Instead, it is said that the doctors had to give only a portion of the medicine that was sufficient for a week.

Due to this, patients have to visit hospitals again and again to get their next dose of medicine, says Dr. Aluthge. Otherwise, patients have to pay a lot of money to get medicines from private pharmacies, he says, and many patients have to go far in search of medicines.
