It is reported that many representatives including Pohottuwe district leaders and members of parliament have received a call from the government for a special discussion this evening.
It is also known that this call has been made despite the objection of the seniors of Pohottuwa.
On a previous occasion, the government had taken steps to call a select group of Pohottuwa chiefs, district leaders, and state ministers to the President’s Secretariat, claiming it was a meeting of the ruling party.
There, Mr. Sagara Kariyawasam, General Secretary of Pohottu, had taken steps to publicly protest during the meeting regarding that call.
Also, when the government informed Mr. Namal Rajapaksa regarding the meeting to be held today, Mr. Namal Rajapaksa had also indicated that it is appropriate to convene such meetings after discussing with Pohottuwa officially.
But despite this objection, after the cabinet meeting this evening, the government has taken steps to convene a meeting in which Pohottuwa representatives will also participate.
According to political sources, the Pohottu chiefs are going to publicly express their opposition in this meeting.
It has also been learned that many representatives, including the leaders of Pohottuwe district, who have been called to today’s meeting, have already decided not to participate
