A video where Mr S.M Marikkar and the President in a conversation which took place a few months ago in a funeral house is being used by the government and JVP to gain undue publicity by attempting to tarnish the image of Mr Marikkar.
This has been reported as a meeting took place yesterday.
The said meeting of the two did not happen yesterday or secretly but at a funeral ceremony where thousands of people gathered.
Sirinal de Mal, a former senior member of the UNP, passed away last June and Mr. Marikkar as well as the President was present at the funeral.
There was a short political conversation between the President and Mr. Marikkar.
When meeting political leaders like this at a funeral, it is common practice to exchange ideas with them, even if they represent different camps.
It can be seen that the government and JVP have started a smear campaign against Mr Marikkar by saying that such a random meeting was planned and held on purpose.
