A schism within the Rajapakse family

Political sources state that a serious explosion has emerged within the Rajapaksa family based on the 22nd constitutional amendment.

This is due to the fact that while several members of the Rajapaksa family had informed the Podujana Peramuna that they should protest against the 22nd constitutional amendment, Mr. Chamal Rajapaksa, the senior member of the family, had expressed his opinion in front of several Pohottu MPs that they should be in favor of the 22nd constitutional amendment.

It has also been learned that Mr. Chamal Rajapaksa has expressed his views against Mr. Basil Rajapaksa and that if Mr. Basil Rajapaksa wants to enter the Parliament, he has stated that dual citizenship should be abolished in the same way that Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa abolished dual citizenship to contest the presidential election.

It is also known that Mr. Chamal Rajapaksa has objected to the preparation of giving the post of national organizer of Pohottuwa to Mr. Namal Rajapaksa. Accordingly, it is reported that Mr. Chamal Rajapaksa or Mr. Shashindra Rajapaksa have not participated in any of the discussions called by Mr. Namal Rajapaksa in recent days.

Apart from this, it has been learned that both Mr. Namal Rajapaksa and Mr. Shashindra Rajapaksa are working separately with a group of members of the Pohottu who are close to them.

However, under this background, it has been learned that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is following a silent policy and former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is working together with Chamal Rajapaksa.
