Based on the currently selected applicants, the Court of Appeal has issued an interim order suspending the further steps regarding the transfer of shares in Sri Lanka Telecom and Lanka Hospitals until March 12. Sri Lanka Latest News

After considering two writ petitions presented by Lyca Mobile S.A.R.L. and Pitigo Comerico International Company on behalf of Sri Lanka Telecom and Lyca Leasing Holding Company and Himes International Company on behalf of Lanka Hospitals, Court of Appeal Judge D. N. Mr. Samarakoon issued these interim orders.

In the petitions submitted through lawyer Mr. Sanath Wijewardena, the petitioner companies have stated that they have submitted applications to the respondents for qualification related to the process of transfer of 50.23 per cent shares of Sri Lanka Telecom Company and 51.34 percent shares of Sri Lanka Hospitals Company owned by the government.

But “Ada Derana” court reporter stated that the petitioner companies alleged that the cabinet committee responsible for the restructuring of public enterprises decided to reject those applications without explaining any reasons.

Pointing out that this decision of the Cabinet sub-committee is arbitrary and unfair, the petitioner companies have shown in their petitions that the committee’s decision not to accept their applications despite meeting all the qualifications is against the law.

After considering the facts presented, the Court of Appeal judge issued a notice asking Finance Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, State Minister for Finance Shehan Semasinghe, members of the Cabinet Sub-Committee appointed for the restructuring of public enterprises and the Attorney General to testify on March 12. ordered to do.

“Ada Derana” court reporter said that the court issued these interim orders.

It is stated that on behalf of the petitioner companies, a panel of lawyers including President’s Counsel Kuvera De Soyza, was present on the advice of Mr. Sanath Wijewardena, lawyer. –
