The media convener of the Association of Community Medical Specialists, Dr. Navin de Soyza said at a press conference today that only one patient has been diagnosed with listeria in Sri Lanka.

Further commenting there, the doctor said that some facts published on social media are not correct.

He further said that although two other patients had been reported dead in those reports, it was not revealed that those patients were infected with listeria.

In the meantime, Dr. Navin de Soysa says that special studies are being carried out in connection with Sri Padasthana, which reports about the related incident.

Dr. Navin de Soyza says that Listeria can be contracted through food and the symptoms can be diarrhea, stomach ache and fever.

He further said that some people may develop coma after contracting listeria.

However, Dr. Navin de Soyza says that washing hands and following proper hygiene practices is enough to prevent this disease.
