US Ambassador Julie Chung has asked the Sri Lankan authorities to ensure that people’s rights are protected in relation to the Online Security Bill and anti-terrorism legislation.Sri Lanka Latest News
In a tweet, the ambassador said it was important to get input from the technical sector, civil society and various experts when debating the Sri Lanka Online Security Bill.
Ambassador Chang has also asked the Sri Lankan government to honour its promise to amend the anti-terrorism laws in line with international standards and best practices of other democratic countries.
It has been stated that Sri Lankans deserve both security and basic freedom.
Striking the right balance through effective legislation will ensure both the freedom of lawful assembly and the empowerment of law enforcement to effectively address threats, the US ambassador added in her tweet.
