A person was killed and another seriously injured in a shooting that took place in Denipitiya, Weligama last night (15th).
The victims were a father and son.
The shooting took place at Denipitiya, near the Nugaruka on the Weligama-Akurassa main road at around 9.40 pm last night.
The police said that while the father and son were traveling on a motorcycle, another group of people on a motorcycle fired at them.
The 50-year-old father died on the spot due to the shooting and the son is currently receiving treatment at the Matara General Hospital. His is 20 years.
Preliminary investigations by the police have revealed that a T56 type firearm was used for the shooting.
Police said nearly 20 shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting.
The police said that investigations have been started to find the suspects.
