A tragic shooting incident in the Magulagama area of the Hettipola Police Division has claimed the life of a 9-year-old girl. The child, who was hospitalized with gunshot injuries, succumbed to her wounds tonight (27).
According to the police, both the girl and her grandmother sustained gunshot injuries and were admitted to Kuliyapitiya Hospital. The grandmother is currently receiving treatment.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the child was at home with her grandmother when she heard a group of people shouting nearby about hunting pigs. As she stepped out of the house to check, she was shot.
The girl’s body has been placed at the Kuliyapitiya Hospital morgue. Meanwhile, the police have recovered the 12-bore firearm used in the incident, but the suspect has fled the area.
Hettipola Police have launched a comprehensive investigation to apprehend the suspect.
