Member of Parliament Professor G.L. Pieris emphasized the judiciary’s crucial role in safeguarding democracy and condemned parliamentary insults directed at Supreme Court judges, stating this during a press conference today in Colombo.

He asserted that despite the government’s efforts to delay the presidential election through various means, postponement is not feasible, stressing the need for fairness in the upcoming elections.

Highlighting the government’s attempts to influence public opinion ahead of the elections, Professor G.L. Pieris cautioned against deception, describing advisory community councils as politically motivated.

Regarding the presidential election timeline, he noted the Election Commission’s authority to announce the election within 23 days, expressing concerns over potential delays advocated by the President.
