On 09/03/2026 at around 5.30 p.m., a small child at the Thorakolayaya Little Power Day Care Center fell into a small pool located nearby and died.
The deceased has been identified as an 18-month-old child, Alupotha Gamage Aeon Deesara Avinath, a resident of the Kadamadiththa area in Medamulana.
According to reports, the child’s mother, Wickramasinghe Madush Dilhani, had left her son at the day care center before going to work at the Thorakolayaya Garment Factory.
At around 5.30 p.m., she went to the Middeniya Kariyadiththa Hospital following instructions given by the superintendent of the day care center. It was at the hospital that she was informed that her son had fallen into water.
It was later revealed that the child had already died.
As the day care center falls under the Embilipitiya Police Division, further investigations are being carried out by the Embilipitiya Police.
Meanwhile, the caretaker of the day care center has been arrested by the police.
