The Kandana Police report that an unidentified individual or group has stolen the 175-year-old statue of the saint from the St. Sebastian National Shrine in the early hours of yesterday (01).
The statue, venerated by thousands of devotees, was placed in the tarpaulin section of the Kandana St. Sebastian Church.
Authorities have launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from cameras installed within the church premises and along nearby roads. Preliminary footage reveals a masked individual scaling the church’s security fence and entering the premises in the early hours of the morning.
The investigation is ongoing as police work to identify the suspect and recover the historic statue.
