Our freedom will be lost if your and our people’s right to information is violated.

The powerful hands benefit from the loss of that freedom.

They will then be able to do whatever they want by deceiving people on a daily basis.

The ultimate responsibility of the media is to report the truth.

Without it, neither the government nor the politicians can be protected.

This absolute duty to the people was dealt a fatal blow 14 years ago.

Many young people today may have forgotten about this incident.

But we remember now and then.

It has been 14 years since the Sirasa complex was attacked by a fatal attack on the people’s right to know.

The criminals are still on the loose…

On this day in January 2009, an armed gang launched this heinous attack on the Sirasa media network, Depanama apartment complex, capturing the attention of the entire world.

We had clearly informed law enforcement authorities about suspicious behaviour and threats prior to launching this attack.

The armed mobs stormed the cabin complex and attacked the security at 2:10 a.m. that morning.

The thugs’ target was the main control room of our media network, which had been modernised with a cutting-edge computer system that provides public information.

The only thing visible were the thugs who stormed out of the woods and completely destroyed the cabin complex.

They made their escape using powerful clay bombs.

Following the attack, a coroner’s investigation discovered an 8kg claymore bomb in the debris.

Although the attack’s leaders intended to silence us by bombing and setting fire, we were able to reopen all channels within a few hours.

Mr. Lasantha Wickramatunga, the senior journalist who arrived in Depanam immediately and condemned this heinous crime, was murdered on the road exactly two days later, on January 8, 2009.

Various domestic and international parties condemned the Dapanama mob attack, calling it a shameful attempt to silence a media network that reveals the truth for the people.

The perpetrators of this crime, as well as those who carried it out, are still at large.

They are free, but they are guilty in their hearts. They understand that no matter where they go, they can never escape karma.

We are with the people, both then and now.

They are well aware that it will be the same tomorrow.

We support the people, and the people support us.

Because of this, he is always present.

The note of truth to the inquiry of intellect.
