Gamer.LK’s Play Expo & Colombo Comic Expo 2024 powered by Coca-Cola, concluded recently at the Sri Lanka Exhibition & Convention Centre (SLECC), marking another milestone in Sri Lanka’s growing youth and pop culture landscape. As the country’s largest festival of gaming, Esports, and geek culture, Play Expo 2024 brought together over 10,000 attendees for two days of creativity, innovation, and community celebration.

Building on its legacy, the event showcased competitive Esports action, dynamic pop culture events, and the latest in gaming and tech. Over 3,000 gamers participated in tournaments across 20 popular titles, with electrifying matches energising the Esports arena. LVG Esports emerged victorious, securing the title of Best Esports Clan amidst fierce competition.

The Colombo Comic Expo (CCx), a central attraction, celebrated Sri Lanka’s cosplay and fandom culture with its Cosplay Ramp Walk, featuring over 300 participants. This year’s Best Overall Cosplay award went to Indunil Tennekoon, who brought incredible artistry and dedication to the stage. Cosplay highlights included intricate armour designs and stunning transformations, showcasing the immense talent of Sri Lanka’s cosplay community.

Reflecting on the event, Raveen Wijayatilake, CEO of Gamer.LK, said, “Play Expo is a testament to the incredible talent and passion within our community. Seeing gamers, cosplayers, fans, and creators come together in this celebration of youth creativity and digital culture drives us to push boundaries and make each year bigger and better. In 2025, we’re excited to build on this momentum and take things to even greater heights.”

The vibrant Artist Alley featured over 30 local creators, offering visitors an opportunity to explore breathtaking art and fandom-inspired merchandise. From vibrant digital illustrations to quirky collectibles, the space highlighted the creativity of Sri Lanka’s artistic talent and provided a platform for independent artists to connect with fans.

Tech enthusiasts experienced cutting-edge gaming setups, immersive VR worlds, and high-speed racing simulators, adding a tech-driven edge to the event. Attendees also enjoyed influencer meet-ups, where fans connected with their favourite digital creators, snapping selfies and making unforgettable memories.

Play Expo 2024 was powered by Coca-Cola, with Uber as the Mobility Partner, Scope Cinemas as the Cinema Partner, CLEAR as the Confidence Partner and Titanite as the Cosplay Partner. This year’s event once again raised the bar for youth events in Sri Lanka, offering a blend of creativity, innovation, and community spirit.
