People’s Bank relaunches multiple enhanced services for migrant workers

People’s Bank Celebrated World Children’s Day by relaunching ‘Ethera Udana Minors’ Foreign Currency Account with new features at the bank’s Headquarters Branch at 1st October 2024. In parallel to this, People’s Bank’s ‘Ethera Isura’ Personal Foreign Currency (PFC) account and People’s Remittance service were also relaunched.

During the event, new logos were unveiled for ‘Ethera Isura’, ‘Ethera Udana’ and People’s Remittance in addition to felicitation of 10 ‘Ethera Udana’ Account Holders.

Sharing his thoughts, People’s Bank Chairman Sujeewa Rajapakse stated, “Every year, World Children’s Day gives emphasis to the importance of empowering the children of today by providing them a sound education and creating an environment where they can be safe and happy. For the past several decades People’s Bank has continued to make every possible effort to ensure the upliftment of the children of this country.

 The government policy also is to ensure a safe world for children in order to create a creative future generation and thereby a develop the human resource and the civil society of the country. In line with that, we at People’s Bank are striving to empower the future generation of the country in every possible way rather than focusing on mere profits. The ‘Ethera Udana’ Minors’ Foreign Currency Account was also introduced with the aim of supporting the educational journey of children whose parents are working abroad.”

 People’s Bank Chief Executive Officer/General Manager Clive Fonseka commented, “Many Sri Lankans who sweat and toil in foreign countries make that sacrifice and spend years away from their families in the hope of securing a better future for themselves and especially for their loved ones.

 Today, People’s Bank has relaunched ‘Ethera Udana’, Minors’ Foreign Currency Account , ‘Ethera Isura’ Personal Foreign Currency (PFC) account and People’s Remittance with the goal of delivering an even better value added service to our customers. We will strive to provide world-class financial solutions to these individuals into the future.”

The event was attended by a large gathering including People’s Bank Chairman Sujeewa Rajapakse, Chief Executive Officer/General Manager Clive Fonseka, Additional Secretary (Administration) of Foreign Employment- Ministry of Justice, Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils, Local Government and Labour J.S. Prasad Piyasena, Actg. Additional GM (International Affairs) of Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment P.G.G.S Yapa, General Manager of  Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency & Actg. Additional General Manager (Local Affairs) Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Mr. P.P. Weerasekara, Chief Inspector of Police- OIC- Community Policing Division Manoj Samarasekara- National Project Coordinator of ILO- International Labour Organization-  S. Nishantha Warnasuriya, Principal of Vishaka Vidyalaya Manomi Senevirathne and People’s Bank Deputy General Manager – Overseas Customer Services Aruni Liyanagunawardana, together with corporate and executive management, bank staff members, Bank Trade Union Representatives, officials of Foreign employment Agencies, customers and Children.

People’s Bank has the country’s largest banking customer base of 15.2 million and also the largest branch network of 747 physical contact points to serve them. The bank also provides its services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year via its Self-Banking Units amounting to over 290 across the island, enabling customers to conduct their transactions without having to visit a bank branch. The bank has also stamped its supremacy in the digital banking sphere with over 3,000,000 digital banking customers.
