People’s Bank, through its Sisu Udana savings account, has partnered with Chooti Baba newspaper to launch a series of educational seminars aimed at strengthening the knowledge and academic skills of students preparing for this year’s Grade 5 Scholarship Examination.
As part of this initiative, over 60 seminars are being conducted island-wide, employing modern teaching methodologies to enhance students’ academic capabilities while fostering a supportive and emotionally reassuring environment in which to approach the examination. The programme also offers parents practical guidance on how best to support their children through the examination preparation process. These seminars are delivered by a team of experienced and highly knowledgeable educators.
The Sisu Udana Chooti Baba Online Scholarship Seminars are held weekly and broadcast via Zoom on the official Facebook pages and YouTube channels of People’s Bank Sri Lanka and Imashi Education.
Furthermore, every student who achieves a mark above the scholarship cut-off will receive a commemorative medal in recognition of their achievement. In addition, Grade 5 Scholarship achievers who maintain a minimum balance of Rs. 5,000 in their Sisu Udana account prior to the examination date — or who build up such a balance within three months of the release of results, through a new or existing Sisu Udana account — will be eligible for special gifts and medals.
People’s Bank introduced the Sisu Udana Account in 1996 with the objective of securing the futures of Sri Lankan children and empowering them from an early age. Over the decades, the account has cultivated a strong savings habit among schoolchildren between the ages of 6 and 18. Beyond the interest earned, accountholders are entitled to a range of rewards and benefits based on their deposit amounts. As a responsible financial institution, People’s Bank remains committed to supporting these young savers throughout their academic journey, extending its services to help secure their path through to higher education.
Recognising that the children of today represent the future of the nation, People’s Bank continues to organise this seminar series for students sitting the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination and to recognise the achievements of successful candidates. The Bank encourages parents, who consistently strive to provide the best for their children, to contribute to their child’s Sisu Udana account as part of their preparation for this year’s Grade 5 Scholarship Examination — helping to lay the foundation for a prosperous future.
