PSCDP is the first program under the initiative, in collaboration with Kalbe Pharma

Consistently growing its physical footprint to offer an affordable, accessible and quality healthcare service to its patients, the country’s largest and fastest-growing primary care chain Medihelp Hospitals recently launched ‘Medihelp Nanasawi’, an initiative which was brought to life highlighting the importance of sustaining, nurturing and updating the skills and knowledge of its human resources.

The ‘Medihelp Nanasawi’ launch event which was held recently, was graced by the hospital’s Board of Directors and dignitaries, including Chairman Mr. Lesley Wijesiriwardana, Director of Laboratories Mrs. Sunanda Wijesiriwardana, Medical Director Dr Charitha Wijesiriwardana, Executive Director Mr. Chandika Wijesiriwardana, Chief Operating Officer Mr. Nishantha Jayamanne, along with the management and members of staff.

“As the founder chairman of Medihelp Hospitals I am delighted to witness this historic launch of ‘Medihelp Nanasawi’, under which we will be unveiling a series of structured and intricate programmes to continuously improve the competency of our staff at all levels. As a rapidly expanding healthcare chain, we believe that it is imperative to uplift the knowledge and skills of our human resources in order to provide a better service to our patients.” commented Chairman Mr. Lesley Wijesiriwardana.

Speaking at the occasion Medical Director of the chain Dr. Charitha Wijesiriwardana stated “During a time where the country is going through an economic turbulence and facing other factors that have made it extremely challenging to retain talent or seek new talent, ensuring that our team is equipped with modern know-how and latest in global best practices, medical technology and advancements will be one of our key success factors.”

With the rapid expansion strategy of the hospitals chain being executed in full force amid the country’s current volatile macroeconomic climate, one of the main challenges faced by the healthcare industry of the country is the shortage in skilled workforce. As a strategic response to this, the hospital chain introduced ‘Medihelp Nanasawi’, spearheaded by Medihelp Hospitals Chief Operating Officer Mr. Nishantha Jayamanne, to develop a highly competent talent pool within the organization.

The event also saw the inauguration of the ‘Pharmacy Staff Competency Development Programme’ (PSCDP), the first programme under the Medihelp Nanasawi initiative. The first batch includes 30 pharmacy staff members from nine pharmacies within the Medihelp Hospitals chain, including two pharmacies in Horana, and one each in Nugegoda, Moratuwa, Piliyandala, Homagama, Bandaragama, Athurugiriya and Mathugama.

The PSCDP is set up in partnership with Kalbe Pharma, and is a six-month certificate course conducted by an eminent panel of qualified industry specialists from the pharmacy field.

Commenting on the program, Medihelp Hospitals Chief Operating Officer Mr. Nishantha Jayamanne noted that “while the initial programmme is centred on pharmacy staff, we will be rolling out a host of additional programmes towards achieving the same goal among other departments including laboratory, nursing, paramedical and all support functions in the near future. Whether we are embarking on an expansion strategy or not, it is our commitment to continuously raise the bar by improving skills, knowledge and standards of our entire workforce which would eventually elevate the overall service standards and customer experience.”

Over the years, Medihelp has grown to become a number one choice among patients due to the personalized nature of its offering, its top-tier customer care, highly competent team of healthcare professionals as well as its spacious, modern facilities. With ‘Medihelp Nanasawi’, the hospital aims to maximize its potential in these areas to stand out and facilitate patients of all walks of life, with the best healthcare.
