Ceylinco Life lays foundation stones for new classrooms in Ampara and Galle

Ceylinco Life is funding the construction of two new classroom buildings for under-resourced schools in the Ampara and Galle Districts, extending the reach of the Company’s long-running Classroom Development Programme, which has built 89 classrooms to date.

Foundation stones were laid at Udayagiriya Vidyalaya in Ampara and Gallandala Kanishta Vidyalaya in Galle, marking the start of work that will replace makeshift learning spaces with proper facilities.

Both schools, which currently rely on temporary shelters and improvised structures, will each receive a 20 x 20ft classroom designed to provide a safe, durable and engaging environment for students.

At Udayagiriya Vidyalaya, a school that serves 160 students with a staff of 20, the new building will support learners in Grade 8. At Gallandala Kanishta Vidyalaya, which has 138 students and 18 teachers, the classroom will benefit Grade 10 students who have had to manage with inadequate accommodation for their studies.

These two projects continue Ceylinco Life’s commitment to uplifting schools in remote areas that lack the infrastructure necessary for effective teaching and learning. The Company’s Classroom Development Programme identifies schools most in need through its island-wide network, works closely with local communities, and funds construction in stages while closely monitoring progress.

Each completed classroom is maintained by the Company to ensure that it serves future generations.

Since building its first classroom for Tissa Primary School in Lunugamvehera in 2004, Ceylinco Life has supported schools across the country by constructing purpose-built classrooms for children who would otherwise study under trees, in dilapidated halls or in cramped temporary shelters. The foundations laid in Ampara and Galle reflect the Company’s ongoing commitment to improving educational environments and enabling students to pursue their studies with dignity and stability.

Ceylinco Life has been the market leader in Sri Lanka’s life insurance industry for 21 consecutive years, offering innovative insurance solutions that protect and de-risk the ambitions of policyholders. Earlier this year, the Company was ranked the most valuable insurance brand in Sri Lanka and the 22nd most valuable brand overall by Brand Finance. It was also voted the People’s Life Insurance Service Provider of the Year for the 19th consecutive year in 2025, reaffirming its status as the brand trusted by millions. The company was adjudged Sri Lanka’s Brand of the Year in 2022 and 2023, and was recognised among the 10 Most Admired Companies in Sri Lanka in 2023 by the International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka (ICCSL) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
