51 Individuals, Including 41 Public Officials, Indicted in Bribery Cases During First Four Months of 2026

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) says that 51 individuals have been indicted before the courts during the first four months of this year, with 41 of them being public officials.

According to the Commission, these cases were filed between January 1 and April 30, 2026, as detailed in its monthly progress report.

The report states that a total of 51 individuals have been named as accused before the courts. Of these, three individuals were charged before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, while 48 individuals were indicted before the Colombo High Court.

The Commission further noted that among the 41 public officials who became accused in these cases, 14 were officers attached to the Police Department. In addition, four officers from the National Television Corporation, two officers each from the Urban Development Authority, the Department of Motor Traffic, the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, and the Department of Forest Conservation (Forest Officers) were also among those charged.

The details were disclosed in the monthly progress report issued by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
