The Colombo High Court today (11) dismissed the appeal filed by Shashi Weerawansa against the two-year prison sentence and fine imposed on her for possessing an illegal foreign passport.

Delivering the judgment, Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne stated that the verdict delivered by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court against the appellant-defendant would be upheld.

Shashi Weerawansa was convicted on the relevant charge and, in 2022, was sentenced by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court to two years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 100,000.

Subsequently, she filed an appeal before the Colombo High Court seeking relief from the prison sentence and fine imposed by the Magistrate’s Court.

However, the High Court today rejected the appeal and affirmed the original judgment.
