High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, H.E. Santosh Jha, visited the ongoing Hybrid Renewable Energy Project on Delft Island on 03 June 2026. This project is currently implemented in three islands of Delft, Analathivu, and Nainathivu, off Jaffna in Sri Lanka.

The project is being implemented under grant assistance of USD 11 million from the Government of India and reaffirms India’s commitment to bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, as well as the human-centric nature of India’s development partnership initiatives in Sri Lanka.

The project combines solar, wind and diesel generator with battery backup systems to deliver a reliable and integrated energy solution with a total output capacity of nearly 4.3 MW. This addresses the energy needs of the people of these three islands which are not connected to the national grid.

During the visit, High Commissioner reviewed the progress of the project at the Delft site and interacted with officials from the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA), project contractor and beneficiary communities.

The High Commissioner emphasized that the project stands as a symbol of the enduring and people-centric development partnership between India and Sri Lanka. He noted that India remains committed to supporting Sri Lanka’s sustainable development priorities through impactful grant projects that directly benefit local communities.
