The results of the Tamil Nadu state elections are currently being released.
According to the latest reports, Indian superstar Vijay, representing the Tamilaga Vetri Kalagam party, has taken an early lead.
His party has secured 107 out of 234 constituencies in the first phase of postal vote counting, placing it in the lead.
The ADMK alliance, which is aligned with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is currently in second place, having won 75 seats so far.
Meanwhile, the DMK alliance, which was previously in power under the leadership of M. K. Stalin, has managed to win only 52 constituencies this time.
Accordingly, superstar Vijay remains in the lead after securing 107 constituencies in the first phase of postal vote counting.
To form a government in the 234-seat Tamil Nadu State Assembly, a party must win at least 118 seats.
In the previous Tamil Nadu election, the DMK alliance won 159 seats, while the ADMK alliance secured only 75 seats.
The outcome of the Tamil Nadu state election is also expected to impact the position of India’s central government, as Tamil Nadu is the country’s second-largest economy.
This election has also been viewed as significant in relation to issues concerning the Sri Lankan Tamil community.
Thalapathy Vijay had also included proposals related to regaining ownership of Sri Lanka’s Katchatheevu Island in his election manifesto.
