The United States Navy has reportedly conducted a naval exercise and security operation in the Strait of Hormuz, deploying two warships as part of the mission.
The warships, USS Michael Murphy (DDG-112) and USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG-121), transited through the Strait as part of the operation. According to US Central Command Admiral Bud Cooper, the exercise is a pre-emptive measure aimed at safeguarding the Strait of Hormuz and preparing for potential future threats.
The operation has been described as a preparatory step for a possible full-scale mine-clearing mission in the Strait. It is also intended to establish the necessary conditions for such operations, signaling the strongest indication yet that the United States may carry out a future operation in the Strait of Hormuz.
