The Chairman of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Engineer Chandana Bandara, has announced that water supply will need to be restricted to a few hours a day for the next two to three weeks due to the ongoing dry and drought-like weather conditions in the country.
Speaking to the media, he stated that although such water cuts have not been implemented so far, it will become increasingly difficult to maintain continuous water supply throughout the day under the current weather conditions.
He added that while the production capacity of water treatment plants, including Ambatale, has not yet been affected, the water supply to the highlands is currently experiencing low pressure.
Engineer Bandara urged the public to use existing water resources sparingly, noting that rainy conditions are expected in the near future.
He also mentioned that efforts are underway to distribute water using bowsers to areas facing low water pressure.
