The Bribery Commission informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (19) that investigations have revealed that funds received as a bribe in connection with the Airbus deal were allegedly distributed by suspect Kapila Chandrasena to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Aviation Minister Piyankara Jayaratne.
The Commission further stated that investigations have uncovered that a portion of the relevant funds had also been transferred to the account of Shamindra Rajapaksa, a former board member of SriLankan Airlines.
Accordingly, the Bribery Commission informed the court that the suspect had stated he provided former President Mahinda Rajapaksa with a total of Rs. 60 million on three separate occasions, each amounting to Rs. 20 million. These payments were allegedly made at the former President’s Beliatta residence and Carlton residence, following a request made by Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2015.
